A FORTUNATE LIFT

James left for work as usual in the morning at 8 to catch the downtown bus to his office. But on Friday, the bus didn't show up. It was very important for him to reach the office in time. Even taxis weren't showing up.
       
     Luckily a car pulled over near him. He was kind of surprise as though who would stop for a stranger that too in the rush hour. There was an old man in his fifties along with his wife sitting in an old Fiat model from 1970.
James had never seen such an old car maintained that well.

    He told his problem and the old man asked him to hop in, as they were heading the same way. He was already ten minutes behind the schedule and was tensed. The old man said “Hey son don’t worry everything is still under control, you will reach on time. Listen to the radio and relax. ” Car radio was playing songs from the 1970’s from some station he never even heard of. The car was not even making any sound as if it was still. He appreciated their care towards the car.
      
       Just after this, James received a call from the office, informing him of the delay in the meeting by an hour. James got relieved and told it to the old couple. They both had a good laugh. Meanwhile Old lady was constantly observing James. She remarked, “You remind me of my son, he passed away in an accident.” James said he was sorry to hear that. Only fifteen minutes drive was left to his office, he insisted the old couple to at-least let him buy them a cup of coffee as he now got a plenty of time. Old man said Juice would be fine because it would be quick.   

        They stopped by a Juice corner and James ordered three Orange juice. The shopkeeper said “You look pretty thirsty, Sir”. James wondered “But I ordered one for myself, how’s that making me appear really thirsty." He replied “Rest is for this couple behind me.” But sir there is no one behind you. James looked back and found no one, even the car was missing. This was quite a shock to him. He immediately reached his office and came to know that the bus he use to board daily met with an accident just after picking passengers from his stop.
        
        This made him wonder whether the old couple knew that this would be the end of him. After few weeks, James got to know from social media and some of his acquaintances that an old couple gave them the lift and prevented them from boarding the bus that met with an accident soon after.
